Cardinals veteran pitcher finishes season and career

Adam Wainwright's season and career are officially over.He has been dealing with pain in his back and shoulder.

His last outing was a gem, tossing seven scoreless innings to earn his 200th career victory.

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol kept the door open for the possibility of a pinch-hit plate appearance.

Wainwright hit 10 home runs in his career and won the Silver Slugger in 2017.

He will only step to the plate against the Reds during the final series of the season if Cincinnati has either clinched a postseason berth or already been eliminated 

from contention.Wainwright spent his entire career with the St. Louis Cardinals.

He pitched to a 3.53 ERA in 478 games.He is a three-time All-Star, a two-time Gold Glove winner, and a World Series champion.

He ranks second all-time among Cardinals pitchers in strikeouts and third in wins.
