Sean Payton is expected to sign with the Denver Broncos

Reports indicate that Broncos head coach Sean Payton is set to bring back a fan favorite.

Mike Klis reports that former Saints wideout Tre'Quan Smith will be joining the Broncos' roster early next week.

This week, Smith was activated from the injured reserve list. Saints head coach Dennis Allen provided some insight into the team's deliberations.

We couldn't have left him on IR once he was well, so we had to make a call," Allen explained. We basically decided to let him go and let him sign with anybody he wants.

In 2018, the Saints drafted Smith in the third round after he had played for Central Florida. Payton led the team at the time.

Payton is well aware of Smith's value as a receiver and run blocker.

Smith played for the Saints for five seasons and finished with 131 receptions for 1,764 yards and 18 touchdowns.

He may have been great, but injuries have kept him from blossoming.
